Simple Truth #13 – This World Is A Messed-Up Place!
We hear this often. People are always complaining – “This world is so messed-up!” Yes, it is. I agree. But why? Why is it so messed up?
This world is messed up because people are messed up. In fact, we are all flawed, imperfect people because we are controlled by our desires – the desires of our flesh. And these desires are primarily selfish.
How do I know this? We know that the fleshly desires of mankind are primarily selfish because God has told us in His Word, the Bible. The Bible tells us that God created men and women perfect, and without sin, and placed them in a beautiful garden in a perfect world. But they did not obey God, just as we do not obey Him today, and this is what God calls sin.
Sin is the problem. Sin is what destroys us, as well as the whole world, and all who live in it. So what can we do? It really is very simple, but it is not easy. What we need to do is simply do what God tells us to do.
What does God tell us to do? Even though this world has been, and is being destroyed by sin, God has made a way for us to return to Him. And when we do what He says, we can have victory over sin.
God sent His Son to come and die for this messed-up planet. The message of salvation through faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ has been proclaimed throughout the earth for two thousand years, and each and every person who sincerely turns away from his sin and accepts the forgiveness that God now offers through faith in His Son, will receive new life by the power of the Holy Spirit. The Word of God declares that everyone who puts their faith in Christ will become a “new creation.” Jesus declared that we “must be born again” by the Spirit, before we can ever “see” and understand the true kingdom of God (John 3). He told the woman at the well in John 4 that those who would receive the water that He gives “would never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
What we all need is a “heart change,” and it really is as simple as that. However, our flesh does not want to change and it will fight against us tooth and nail. The decision we each MUST make to obey God and follow Jesus Christ is probably the hardest decision you will ever make – but it is also the best decision you could ever make. And when you do, then, and only then, can you know the hope, joy, love and peace that God originally intended for all of us to experience.
This world will continue to be a disaster until Jesus returns, as He has promised He would, and bring judgment. At that time, He will gather together every person who has put his or her faith in Him and bring them to Himself, but bring eternal condemnation on all those who have refused and rejected the rule of God. That will definitely be a great day for those who have believed, as well as a terrible day for everyone else.
