WORDS OF WISDOM

WORDS OF WISDOM

One of my favorite books in the Bible is Proverbs. It is full of all kinds of practical wisdom, the kind we all need to live our lives on this planet. As I have been reading chapter 8 ( I highly recommend it to all ), this thought came to me very clearly—-

There is only one reason why men want to believe that the earth and the universe came into being mysteriously, by evolution or some other way – it is because they DO NOT want to be accountable or believe that they are ultimately accountable to God – but, we ALL ARE!

Please listen to the voice of wisdom as she shouts in the streets in Proverbs 1:20-33 (this is the New Living Translation) —

“Wisdom shouts in the streets. She cries out in the public square. She calls out to the crowds along the main street, and to those in front of city hall. ‘You simpletons!’ she cries. ‘How long will you go on being simpletons? How long will you mockers relish your mocking? [of God and the truths in His Word] How long will you fools fight the facts? Come here and listen to me! I will pour out the spirit of wisdom upon you and make you wise.

I called out to you so often, but you didn’t come. I reached out to you, but you paid no attention. You ignored my advice and rejected the correction I offered. So I will laugh when you are in trouble! I will mock when disaster overtakes you — when calamity overcomes you like a storm, when you are engulfed by trouble, and when anguish and distress overwhelm you.

I will not answer when they cry for help. Even though they anxiously search for me, they will not find me. For they hated knowledge and chose not to fear the Lord. They rejected my advice and paid no attention when I corrected them. That is why they must eat the bitter fruit of living their own way. They must experience the full terror of the path they have chosen. For they are simpletons who turn away from me – to death. They are fools, and their own complacency will destroy them. BUT ALL WHO LISTEN TO ME [the voice of wisdom, available to all in God’s Word] WILL LIVE IN PEACE AND SAFETY, UNAFRAID OF HARM.'”

Proverbs, chapter 8 is probably one of the most well-known in the Bible. Again, it is the voice of wisdom, personified. Verse 9 says, “My words are plain to anyone with understanding, clear to those who WANT to learn.” Verses 34 and 35 say, “Happy are those who listen to me (Wisdom), watching for me daily at my gates, waiting for me outside my home! For whoever finds me finds life and wins approval from the Lord.”

There are many, many voices that are vying for our ears and hearts these days. I would like to encourage everyone reading this to take advantage of the most valuable Source of truth and wisdom that is available to us in God’s Word – especially in the book of Proverbs.

If anyone has any questions or comments about these passages, I would love to hear them.

Blessings to all!

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.” Proverbs 1:7.
