If you are a Christian, you are obligated to the truth.   You are obligated because you have made a commitment to believe and follow God, and your Lord, Jesus Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit. Because you still live in a house of flesh and bones, which has been corrupted by sin, you are sometimes tempted to sin, and on occasion, you may give in, - but you are not happy about it.

A Christian who sins is  miserable because he knows he has dishonored the Spirit of truth which is in him. The Bible says that "No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God's seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning because he is born of God." (I John 3:9) Thankfully, Christians don't have to stay miserable because the Bible also says that "If we confess our sins, he [God] is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from ALL unrighteousness." (I John 1:9)

When we are born of God, He puts His seed of truth, the Holy Spirit, into our hearts, and we then have the desire to live a holy life. This is what Jesus was referring to when He spoke of being "born again" in John, chapter 3. Jesus said that those who have not been born again are not even able to "see" the Kingdom of God - they won't have a clue. But when God's Spirit finally gets the truth into our thick skulls and we accept it and receive it by faith in our hearts, we are changed people, with new and different priorities. We are then obligated to God, and to the truth of His Word, and we cannot just do, or say (or post on facebook) anything that comes to mind, because His Word of truth has become a part of us.

If you are not a Christian, you are not obligated to the truth, because you are not committed to the One who is the Truth, namely Jesus. You are committed to do and say whatever you want to do and say. You probably know many of the things that Christians are obligated to, and you may tell yourself, and others, that you are also committed to these things, but if you have never consciously made that commitment to love, honor, and obey God, by faith, then you do not have the seed of God within you because you have never received this gift of God which you can only receive by placing your faith and hope and trust in Jesus.

I would go so far as to say that many, many people have felt the "tug" of God's Spirit speaking to their hearts, calling and pleading with them to make this commitment, so that God can place His seed of truth in their hearts, but they have, thus far, refused, rejected, or ignored His call. So they are free to do, and say (or post on facebook), whatever they want and they really won't feel too bad about it - because they have not been born again - they are clueless.  You may think of yourself as a good person, and there may be many bad things that you would not do, and even some good things that you gladly do. But you do what you do because that is what you want to do and probably have always done your whole life. But you do not do what you do because you are obligated to God, or the truth, unless you have committed yourself to Him and have been born again by His Spirit.

Sometimes people may go to church, and even pray a prayer of commitment, and even kneel before an altar, but in their heart they have not truly committed themselves to Christ. A Christian is someone who has truly committed his heart to Jesus and has received the gift of the Holy Spirit in return. The proof is in the changed life that he now lives. He may publicly announce to his friends and family that he is a changed person, and he will usually seek to be baptized, because that is what the Bible tells new Christians to do. But someone who is not truly committed to God will not do these things because he has not been changed by the power of God.

From the outside looking in, it is impossible for one person to know for sure who is committed to God, and who is not. That is why it is very fortunate that humans will not be the ones dividing the sheep from the goats on Judgment Day. That job belongs to God, exclusively, because only He knows who His sheep are and are not. He knows who is truly obligated to Him and His truth.   BUT UNTIL THAT DAY COMES, THE DOOR REMAINS OPEN FOR ANY AND ALL, TO LISTEN TO THE CALL OF GOD'S SPIRIT, AND TO LAY DOWN THE REINS OF THEIR LIFE, AND BELIEVE AND RECEIVE THE TRUTH THAT ONLY THE BLOOD OF CHRIST CAN SAVE YOUR SOUL.   If you hear that call right now, please listen, and believe, and receive.
